Can you tell if they are female?
I used to really want a female mantis when I was younger before I found out how difficult they are to take care of.

All of mine are too young to sex presently, but I DO know how to tell males from females.

And mantises vary a lot in how much care they need. This species, the Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis) is easy to keep, since they accept most any insect smaller than them as food, have no special requirements for temperature and humidity, and generally don't have issues with molting, whereas species like the wandering violin mantis (Gongylus gongylodes) are harder because they will only eat flies, can only live in a narrow temperature and humidity range, and are notorious for mismolting.

If I had more faith in the postal service, I'd offer to ship you one of my babies once they're a little bigger!

Don't worry about it. I don't have a tank to keep one in, but I thought all mantises were picky.

Nope, not all of them - just that the ones that are really popular in the hobby, and the ones that are really ornate.
