Here's song number 8!
We referred to the song as simply "Serpent" cause the title's a bit long...but it needed the fullness in the official title.
It's about religion. More specifically the standard Christian religion. I'll leave you to flesh out just what I mean.
This is really the first time I actually WROTE the entire song for the bass. I was very proud of this, and I think that what I came up with rocks pretty good. Especially the jam section. Speaking of which, during that section I intended to have a low 'ambient' voice speaking the lines of a Bible verse that says pretty much what I mean. I think it was in Corinthians somewhere. But the recording here is from a practice session. We recorded it with the full intent of posting it on myspace, where it is now. This is actually the first quality recording we did while playing together. All the others before this were done by parts in the 'studio'. However, I did redo the vocals after the fact. Getting that done was a MAJOR conflict in our downward spiral. But alas.
Also this song was written around the same time I bought my very own Bass Guitar. You can see it in the thumbnail. It's a 5-String Schecter Stiletto. Fucking beautiful, feels awesome, and plays GREAT! Plus I got it for only $300 something. It was on sale, plus employee discount from our drummer. Super sweet deal. It's the one thing that I really got to take with me from the band...well plus my harmonica.
This was also the first song where the 4 of us wrote the entire song together. No on else had a hand in this one. I sort of intended the vocals/lyrics to have the style of Brandon Boyd from Incubus...I think I failed a bit. Though if I were to do it now, I think I could do better.
Hope you enjoy it everyone. It was a blast to write and perform.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, I'm singing there, and in all of them, of course. Hehe.
I think jazz basslines are the most intriguing. I haven't had a whole lot of jazz exposure, but I think the little bit I know comes through unintentionally. Plus the 2 guitarists have a lot of jazz influence, so that helps.
Thanks again. I'm really proud of this song.

Oh I have to ask. I never really noticed that brand of guitar before. I recently saw a 6 string electric Schecter hanging in the used section of Guitar center in downtown Chicago. It was $400 bucks. It was a dark mahogany color and looked like quality wood and perhaps only a two piece construction and very heavy. Besides that it had a shitload of pickups, Duncans I think and a whole bunch of knobs. The neck seemed really flat large radius. The strings were so trashed by the douchebag brigade I did not even bother plugging it up. But it looked nice and felt kinda good in the hands. So here is a couple of questions,
I play primarily blues. Do you think this axe is worth a shit? Worth a second look? I would kinda like a backup guitar. Something with a really heavy body.
Just wondering if this is something that might be a overlooked jem on the rack.

Honestly, I don't know really ANYTHING about guitars, or even bass guitars, really. All I know is that mine feels and sounds great. Part of that comes from the bandmates (who I assumed do know about them) and some friends in the audience telling me so. I'm not sure if that particular company is better at one than the other.
My main thing was the look and feel of it. I've played a few different bass guitars and they tend to be really heavy. Or the neck is heavier than the body (being so long and all) and is hard to balance. This one was PERFECT. It's really light especially compared to others. The strings are also relatively close together, so maneuvering is easier.
The pickups are EMG-HZ, which I understand to be pretty nice. And the knobs are just gain and tone, one for each pickup. So It's nice and simple for me.
ANYWAY, as for the guitar in the shop...I'd say check it out. The thing with guitars and music is that even one that doesn't sound amazing can be used for a specific purpose. Perhaps there's a song you'd like to play that might have a more 'thrashy' kinda style, even if it's just the guitar that sounds like that, and only one time in the song. Maybe it has a gritty sound that really pleases when played with a harmonica and really emotional vocals. OR, it can just be something to drag around with you that you're not worried about getting messed up, or dinged, or whatever. Something to fiddle around on when you're out and about and don't wanna bring the nice guitar with you.
So yeah, just some blabbering really. Again, I don't know much about guitars. I just try to make stuff that sounds good. And I like pretty things. HAHA.
