This is my second attempt at carving a bas-relief dragon portrait. This time, both the reference line drawing and the physical carving were mine, and therefore there is more in this I find myself self-criticizing.
A note on the material; Linden Wood goes by several names. The scientific name is Tilia vulgaris, or subspecies thereof. I have also seen it referred to as Basswood or Lime-wood (though not a citrus bearing tree). Almost every introductory wood carving kit uses this wood, though I stress that I made this entirely from scratch, cutting it from a larger board to start with.
Technical Details:
Material: see above
Fabrication time: between 10 and 20 hours, broken up and not seriously kept track of
Tools used: Table saw, Ryoba, various chisels and gouges, mini drill with various carving bits, and sandpaper (minimal)
Finish: wood stain, shellac
