Max and Jesse stood stationary in the air. Due to all of their efforts, the old digital world had been completely erased, leaving them standing in an empty space with no place to plant their feet on. Max was the only one of two light sources remaining in this dimension. The glow of his armor and light energy illuminating him, while the only other light source was the darkness's chilling blue gaze. It followed every move he made. But he knew he couldn't take this battle lightly. "If we win. You'll tell us what this threat you're trying to thwart is, won't you?"
"If you win." The darkness chuckled softly, fur and cloak remaining perfectly still, no wrinkles in it's fabric and no rippling of the fur as it spoke to Max. "I will tell you everything. And you will have become the most famed duo in recorded history."
Lifting his Scythe to bare, Jesse flew just out of the Darkness's reach. "That's assuming if we win. But we won't just roll over and die. Let's get this underway." He turned towards Max, giving him a single glance. "Shouldn't you do your Soul cross thing again Max?"
"Well...I WOULD." Max pointed out, showing Jesse the digiegg in the palm of his hand, what glow it had was starting to fade. "Baihumon only gave me so much of his energy to come out here with. At best I could stay in that form for another minute, before I reverted to a digi egg form. No, Regular old Nikkoumon will be just fine." He smiled, getting in a fighting position as he returned his gaze to the Darkness. "Besides, the beast mode was taught to me in the belief it was the only way to destroy the Darkness. But knowing that I was only one half of a greater puzzle, I know I don't need it anymore."
"You two are pretty confident." The robed wolf called out, eerie eyes gazing at the both of them. A lance appeared in the creatures hand, tendrils of darkness coming from the weapon as he held it to bear on the two of them. "Enough talk! Let's start this off so I can prepare for this world and the other's futures."
With the talking having been done, The robed darkness pushed forward, the lance moving in to dig into Max's body, but he was able to twist his body to avoid the attack, kicking the end of the lance and firing a few light blasts towards his adversary. Just as Jesse was doing likewise, but casting off Shadow balls.
The Darkness set a barrier over itself, managing to withstand the assault from the duo. The pair charging forward, Claws extended on Max's side, and Jesse's cape forming into a dense lance around his arm as they forced their way through the barrier, only to growl in dissapointment as their opponant flew off in mist form, only to reappear behind them and grab each by the arms and pull them back. "Gah! This guy..."
"YOu two are pretty bold but you lack experience! It's foolish to charge headlong into something you know nothing about." The Darkness chided, before letting the two go and swinging it's lance in Jesse's direction. It would have had a direct hit if his Shadow Cape hadn't acted on it's own and formed a shield around the point of attack.
Using his light as a lasso, Max pulled Jesse away, while at the same time, using his other arm to fire off a net to encompass the Darkness, but growled as it simply passed through the net in a form of mist. "We need to reTHINK our strategy."
"Max...Listen here." Jesse waited till the lasso was removed from his leg before he started muttering his plan. For a moment, Max looked bewildered, but he gave a short affirmative nod. "Alright. So you remember your end of the deal right?"
Max remained still, taking a deep breath before he suddenly transformed into his wild beast mode. Charging in a blind fury towards the Darkness.
This was certainly an unexpected surprise. Just a moment ago Max had said he wouldn't need it, but here he was. The Darkness simply shook his head and changed his lance into a great shield to deflect attack after attack. "YOu're counting on a few seconds to defeat me? This fight won't end so quickly..."
"Beast claws!" Max roared out, his claws extending and cutting through the shield as if it were just paper. The next thing he knew, Max's hind legs had kicked him in the stomach, sending him propelling backwards. "I'll take you out if it's the last thing I do."
"Thirty seconds..." The Dark beast responded, charging forward. The duo seemingly on par with one another as neither being could get a hit in. Indeed they were evenly matched, until Max opened his jaws and let loose a beam of light that sent the Darkness rearing in pain. With one last push, Max flew head first and outstretched a paw. Tunneling clear through his opponant and leaving a great big hole in his body. "You...you cut through me!"
Max didn't respond right away. He was panting heavily, sweat dripping from his face as he reverted back into his base Guilmon state. "I...told you...we won't let you have your wa-"
He stopped in mid speech when he turned around. He saw that the wound he had inflicted on the Darkness was already repairing itself, and it gave him an ill sense of dread. "What...ARE you?"
He looked on in horror as the Darkness approached him. Then howled as it reached a hand out and grabbed him by the top of his head, leaving him flailing in the air as he tried to break free. "I am the culmination of eons of negative energy that YOUR kind has been feeding to the world. I cannot be killed so easily kid."
With a groan, Max kicked and flailed. He pressed his paws into the canine's wrists, and started letting light flow through them. The act in itself freed him from the creature's grasp and he started swimming in the weightless space around him. "So then you can't simply be destroyed...but we won't give up..." Max growled softly, taking a deep breath as his body started glowing, illuminating and altering him into a luminescant Guilmon. He got himself into a fighting stance once again, as he summoned the Leo sword on his right arm, though it did not speak as it no longer contained the spirit of Leo.
"Let us see!" The Darkness remained motionless. Simply staring at Max with it's unwavering blue glowing eyes, THEN in a blink of an eye it surged forward. No weapon in hand this time, it simply stretched it's claws outward. palm clashing against the Sword attached to Max's arm and causing quite a few sparks upon impact.
On Max's end, he was using every ounce of strength to keep from being completely overwhelmed. He knew he shouldn't have used the beast mode. Not without gauging the opponants fighting capabilities. It was unlike him to EVER make such a rookie mistake. But mistake or not, he pressed on. He was one hundred percent focused on the task at hand. At one point, he managed to deflect the Darkness's claws and took that opportunity to press his free paw onto it's chest and let loose a light beam that cut clean through, leaving a hole the size of Max's paw. "Ok...let's see how you fare with that..."
The Canid grumbled, staring irritably at Max, before it's wound started mending itself once again. "How many times will it take before you get it through your skull...you can't wound me!"
With a growl, Max pressed forward but was kicked to the side by the Darkness. For a moment he kept flying uncontrollably until the Canine grabbed ahold of his leg. Dangling him upside down, he couldn't help but shiver as he saw the cold, dark grin of the wolf's muzzle beneath the cape. "YOu know...you really shouldn't stay hidden under those robes...you need more...SUN!" Max lifted his paw to fire a shot at the Darkness's cloak and blinked when he bent his head unnaturally back. When he lifted it back, the hood had been left down, revealing a rather unsettling appearance.
"You really should have left me to my own buisiness." The darkness, or rather what it was supposed to be, was chillingly white. It was as if he were nothing but bone. In fact, his sockets glowed rather eerily even in the light outside his cloak, but there were no eyes within them, only what looked to be orbs of light stuck in place. As he removed the rest of his attire, it was apparent that he was completely skeletonized. His body was hollow inside, no heart, no lungs, just a husk of what he might have been.
The whole sight horrified Max, he wondered what ever could have happened to any creature that would leave them in such a state. "Were...you always like this?"
"To be honest? No." The Darkness took a deep breath, releasing Max from his hold as he materialized a dagger in his hand. "My true name is Nocturnes. I am a being of darkness and in the digital world I was viewed as a God. If you could consider Yggdrasil to be the heart and soul of the digital world, then I would be his shadow. However...when our worlds intersected with that of the humans for the very first time, I began to change. Their negative energy was like a feast to me. At first I did nothing to instigate war amongst them. They were capable of barbarism on their own. It wasn't until their negative emotions were starting to impact OUR world, that this form you see now...took shape."
That's when it hit him. Max used his Arm blade to deflect the dagger held within Nocturnus's grip. "So then it rotted you. Turned you into a husk of your old self. Is that why you wish to destroy our worlds?"
"It did rot my body. But it made things all the clearer for me. I do not have ill will towards either humans OR digimon. But their violence was like nectar to me. And it gave me the powers to equal Yggdrasil in strength. With it, I managed to shut down his core functions and reduce the digital world to the state it's in. Dangerous...but necessary." Nocturnus replied calmly. indeed there was no hate or rage in his voice. "There will be a collapse. And unless precautions are taken, nobody will survive."
It was at that moment, Max lunged forward, only to have his blade knocked to the side, and the dagger dug itself into Max's shoulder, forcing a painful yelp to come from his lips. "There are better ways!!
"No. Not with the way things are now. My way, is the only way. And you seem to have failed in protecting your worlds. Don't worry...all of you will be one within the Darkness of my heart." Nocturnus said with a soft chuckle. No facial expressions available on his face, and a calm aura around him.
"You think so huh?" Max asked as he turned the blade back into his paw, then with effort, pulled free the daggar in his flesh and grinned wide. his other paw over his wound as light poured through in an effort to heal himself. "You seem to have forgotten one crucial detail."
Though his face showed no change, he tilted it to the side as he kept himself in arms reach of Max, holding the dagger as if to attack him once again. "I wouldn't see where I've overlooked any details. You're running on fumes and I'm about to erase you."
With a smirk, Max took a deep breath as he digitized. The data flying through the air above Nocturnus, causing the undead wolf to look upward at a digivice hurtling through the air then suddenly a set of chains wrapped themselves around the skeletonized canine, a purple aura eminating from them as they bound him in place. Jesse used his cape to catch the digivice and set it to his hip. "Max isn't the only tactician. His wild beast form was all to collect info on your powers, and I realized something very interesting. Your shadow mist, and your reforming abilities remind me of my own shadow powers. It seems you can't become Mist while encased in my sealing chains. That leaves you vulnerable, as these chains can absorb dark energy."
As Jesse floated infront of Nocturnus, he brought MAx back out of the digivice, his wounds healed, but this time he was back in Nikkoumon form, glowing brilliantly. "We knew if we attacked you regularly you would have been cautious. But if you were forced to fight at your fullest, then you'd have to shift all of your attention on me. You hadn't even realized that Jesse hid himself in the same mist you produced yourself." Max gave a small two finger salute, and smirked. "There wasn't any light left in any of the digivices that our friends had. But in the last half hour they were able to recover at least a little of what they lost during their battle against Daemon. It was only a matter of transferring it into my body and now I'm back in full fighting shape!"
Nocturnus growled as he watched Max stretching his limbs out. Indeed they had outsmarted him, and he hated himself for that. "Ah, but the wild beast mode is the only thing that can truely keep up with my power. How will you ever destroy me."
It was then that Max held his palm out, revealing a silver shelled digiegg. "I couldn't use this before...in fact, Baihumon himself told me not too. Not until I had the chance to get the powers of the other soverign into it. And then it hit me...THAT was why Scav and Kiya were sent out to meet the four lords of the digital world. I was even able to regain some of Baihumon's data from them! This is the true end game Nocturnus."
The silver digiegg started shimmering, before it enveloped Max's body in a great radiance. "Nikkoumon!!! Mode Change Toooo!"
Max's armor started shifting, changing from it's normal Golden appearance into an array of colors. shifting from, Red, yellow, blue, before setting in to a radiant white. Several digicores started circling around his arms and legs, as a pair of crystalized wings appeared on his back, while the helmet on his head came off completely and was replaced with a single white visor similar to Paildramon's and a golden greatsword appeared in his hands which he held to bare infront of Nocturnus. "Nikkoumon...Divine mode!"
For a moment, an afterimage of Baihumon, Ebonwumon Zhuqiaomon, and even Azulongmon appeared alongside Max. Each of them glaring intently at Nocturnus. "Nocturnus!" Max roared out, watching as JEsse started removing the sealing chains as he leaned back to recouperate from the strain of the seal. "For the crimes you've made against your fellow digimon! Against the humans, and to Yggdrasil! You will now suffer punishment in the form of deletion!"
As Max made this proclamation, it sounded as if each of the figures behind Max had boomed it out just as well, causing a rippling affect that gave Nocturnus and Jesse a reason to pause. "So now it's sovereign against sovereign? Well let's see if you're capable of giving out that punishment."
Lifting his sword, Max charged forward and the two met at the center. Dagger and Sword hitting with such a force it sent Jesse back several feet as he tried to grab his barings. "YOu better win Max...it's in your hands now."
The two hit it off, sending shockwave after shockwave across the vast space they inhabited. Neither one able to overcome the other. At one point they ended up knocking each other's weapons out of the other's hand, and they moved forward in head to head combat. Max would throw a punch in Nocturnus's direction only for him to catch it in his bony palm and throw a kick in response to which Max was able to block with a swift move of his arm.
Each second seemed like an eternity, as the duo continued this way for a minute longer before breaking off. Max remained unchanged in this form. Eyes keeping their attention over his opponant as Nocturnus did the same. "You're holding back on me." Nocturnus said with a growl. "You were stronger than this in your beast mode yet here you are, you haven't even put a cut on my body. Or broken any of my bones."
"I know you'll simply recover from any attack I land on you. So..." Max pointed a finger at Nocturnus, and then uncurled all five as ropes of light stretched forth, enveloping Nocturnus in their snare. This time there was no mist for him to change into. "I'm neutralizing all of your evasive meanuvers. And deleting what caused your deterioration in the first place. Your deep connection to negative emotions."
When Max said that, Nocturnus's eyes bulged wide. "You're going to what? You realize that to do that you'd have to kill your own species. How can you be so outright abou-"
"I don't need to kill anybody." Max replied with a grumble. placing a hand on Nocturnus's smooth head. "I'm going to purify you. And set a portion of my light around you so that you never become overwhelmed by the combined negativity from our two worlds again."
"You...would do that?" Nocturnus asked, completely bewildered, then gasped as he felt the light in Max's body surge through him. wrapping him in a warm veil, yet it did not harm him. "What..."
Max pulled away somewhat. Then looked to him. "I blocked off the signals you would recieve from our negative emotions. Darkness...can never be truely destroyed. Only sealed. I just hope my seal holds better than anything my ancestors have come up with. I also broke your connection to Yggdrasil. So the digital world should be functioning at full capacity pretty soon!"
"You what!?" Nocturnus forced himself out of Max's ropes and growled. "I needed his network to save our worlds!"
Max took a deep breath and shook his head, smiling softly. "Let us worry about that. You are a sovereign...your duty is to protect your people, but it is up to us to protect the world we live in is it not?"
With a defeated sigh, Nocturnus walked over to Max, and in a surprising display of affection, hugged the knight. "If you fail to uphold your end of the bargain..."
"I know I know..." Max grinned, patting Nocturnus's shoulder. "If we fail to do our job you'll take over. Just...don't destroy everything in the process..."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. As Nocturnus turned away, he opened a portal infront of them. From what Max could see, it was the digital world! The village of Smithy to be precise. "I've opened a gateway back into your world. Yggdrasil would never accept me back into it for all I've done. nor should I."
As Jesse flew over, Max reverted back into his base Guilmon form again. Looking sympathetic to Nocturnus, he held a paw for him to shake. "One day you'll be welcomed back by Yggdrasil. I promise you that."
"Hey Max!" Jesse called out, already making his way to the portal. "We should be heading back now. If we don't have to destroy this guy then we can go home and have a happy ending."
"You go on ahead." With a blink, Jesse was about to ask what Max meant, when he pyro sphered his comrad right into the portal, leaving Max alone with Nocturnus. "So tell me...what is it you were trying to prevent?"
With a soft hand, he wrapped it around Max's shoulder, and smiled softly. "Whatever Leo tells you to do...just...take his advice." With that, Nocturnus tossed Max into the portal, closing it behind him. "No matter how confusing or horrible it sounds at the time..."
Back in the digital world, Max and Jesse recounted the events in the Dark realm to everyone in the village. It took them some time to recover, but as soon as everyone was back in perfect health, Max and Jesse removed all of the villagers from the dark realm and set them out into the digital world. Hoping that they would find a better life here.
Viewing the damage done to the digivices, Smithy walked over to the group of heroes and scratched his head. "Well they're done. I've tried everything I could but the digivices won't start back on. Whatever you guys did, definitely fried the circuits."
"So then...I'll never be Agunimon again..." Said Flare with a hint of regret.
"Not necessarily!" Smithy rubbed his chin and chuckled. "The spirit of fire chose you. For you...a digivice is not required as he originally housed himself in your pokegear. Same goes for Jesse." He gave them both a wink.
With a sigh, Charmeleon looked over to Max, speaking in his native tongue as he'd lost his Coronamon form after the battle. Since Max was the only one with the ability to understand his language, he acted as the translator for the group. "Charmeleon misses the ability to speak as well. he also...misses being whole again..." Max relayed, Charmeleons message solemly, watching as the reptile started rubbing over his prosthetic right eye.
"Well...shame we couldn't tell RD of this...Examon dragged him off to the East before we could deliver the bad news..." Jesse pointed out, chuckling some.
"Examon will find a way. Somehow he'll get RD back into a digimon body one way or another." Dorumon laughed, jumping up just to be at eye level with some of his friends. "As for me...my days of being a knight are over...I'm going to see about repairing Were's Tavern...when Barbamon attacked, he and a good chunk of Starlight city was destroyed."
Blade stared into the distance, with Hilt right next to him everything seemed to be at peace back in their home village of Blue Chrome. After a bit of work, the village had come to accept his new leadership. Though he felt it came with a heavy cost as he turned to the Wargreymon. "You'll be rebuilding Red Chrome village for your crimes...Think you can handle maintaining the tribe?"
Hilt turned his attention to the Victorygreymon. He knew what his brother really meant. Despite how the two felt about each other, the villagers would never accept someone like himself, back into the village after he'd completely decimated Red Chrome village. Though Blade called it rebuilding...What it had been for the villagers were Exile. "I'll miss you. I hope that you won't plunge the whole Eastern continent into ruin." Hilt joked, before grasping his younger brother in a hug. holding it there only a moment longer. "Go on. Silver's waiting for you."
Blushing bright, Blade pushed his brother foreward, and smiled sadly. "I'll see you someday brother. Make me proud and make Red Chrome stronger than ever." As he watched Hilt dissapear down the mountain, he turned his head to the right, watching Silver, his Imperialdramon mate walk over with a light blue digiegg in hand, the two of them then walked back into the village, looking content and happy as could be.
Hackmon was sitting at the dining table, Snatching away a cookies from Max's plate as the group enjoyed their last picnic that they would be able to enjoy together. For awhile nobody spoke, until Max piped up. "I found the perfect location for us to build the Tamers guild! I found it while perusing through Smithy's books. There's an uninhabited island between the South and Western boarders. I've already contacted Blade about it and he's given me permission to settle in there, same with Zhuqiaomon."
"that's great!" Hackmon looked excited, munching on more food than most could grab at. "so...when do we leave?!"
Both Scav, and Kiya stuffed their faces until they heard that last comment. "Oh...Kiya and I have a new case back in the human world so we'll have to head out right after we finish our meal..."
Kiya looked down for a moment, before smirking. "We'll definitely come visit whenever we can though. Not many can say they helped save both the human AND digital worlds."
That got a small laugh out of everyone. As Fang used one great paw to grab ahold of his food bowl. Being a Zeedgarurumon, he was sticking out like a sore thumb with his form. "Hey Lyle don't you want to come join in on the fun?"
The Liamon stood to the side, sunbathing in the grass as he heard his name being called out. With a twitch of his ear, he opened one eye and grumbled. "No thanks. Some of us are trying to take a nap."
"awww he's just cranky." Kiya said with a smirk, lifting up half of a sandwich. "Lyle..." He stepped over in his full dragon form and handed him the sandwich and gave him a soft hug. "I did enjoy our travels together across this world."
eyes wide, Lyle coughed once and sat upright. "You're always welcome in our village. If you need my help, just call for me and I'll come to your aid."
As the two had their heartfelt moment, Leo stepped over to Max, a serious expression on his face. "Max...before you start building the Tamers guild...I need you to come with me. There's someone who wants to see you, and more importantly...NEEDS to see you."
For a moment, Jesse sprang forward, But Leo shook his head. "No, Just me and Max. Well...Belphemon and Bang as well."
Bang, the Beelzemon gave a sharp nod. "Our Master is interested in meeting you. It's the whole reason I came to this world!"
For a moment, everybody looked at Bang and Leo with an expression of caution. But Max quickly shook his head and smiled. "Everybody relax...I already anticipated this would happen. Nocturnus...told me to trust in Leo's judgement." Quickly, Max walked over to both Kiya and Scav, giving them each a tight hug in good bye. Then he turned both to Flare, and Charmeleon. The latter he knelt down to and grabbed his paw. "You...watch out for him okay? The next time I see you guys, I want to see bright smiles!"
"You got it!" Flare replied with his usual energy. Charmeleon at his side, gave Max a small thumbs up, then looked saddened as a portal opened behind the Guilmon.
"Well guys! I'll be back later!" With that Max jumped through the portal, after which, both Leo and Bang followed suit
IT was disorienting to say the least. Here Max was, returning to the human world, but he had no idea where it was he would be going! He hadn't the faintest idea who Leo's Master was. If he'd be a person Max would agree with, or if it was another nut trying to take over the world. With a deep breath, he let out the best roar he could in his Guilmon form as they finished their way through the portal.

With a deep breath, he let out the best roar he could in his Guilmon form as they finished their way through the portal.

eeh not really. if you recall RD ate Max's Father to help fuel his Soul Cross. or rather Hilt did. once the world fell apart leaving nothing but space, Max used his digivice to store everybody inside, as in the digital world even the dark digital world humans are data too
