Ah yes, Street Sharks. This series has gotten quite a cult following as this animated series was DiC Entertainment (now folded to DHX Media) wanted to compete with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in the day.

Wow. That's what many anime is typically known for. While most western animated series was just made to entertain audiences, there were few that actually had ongoing stories and more realistic character relationships. Many animes had that premise.
