The shackling/enslavement was from a Naga race called the Shissar. In what the Iksar consider divine retribution, the Shissar were killed overnight by a mysterious force that melted the flesh off their bones yet did not affect the Iksar. It's known as "The Coming of the Green," and it's such a significant event that they date years by before and after green, A.G. for the contemporary time (which actually is in the 3000s now iirc).
