Another "study" of this Fraggle character that hasn't satisfied me yet. She is a potter and sculpts in clay, and very shy. But while I want her to be very hippie-like, I don't want her to resemble Mokey Fraggle as much as she does. Ah well... maybe next time I'll strike the right note.
UPDATE -- since it seemed to upset some people that Willa's tail didn't begin where they thought it should -- a point I'll grudgingly concede -- I've revised her butt to what I think is correct. Any further complaints should be addressed to me by land mail with a $5 bill enclosed.

It should have been a little higher, but not jutting out of the bottom of the spine like a baboon's ... although judging from comments (particularly over at DA) that seemed to be the one thing everyone noticed to the exclusion of anything else. What? Am I surrounded by tail fetishists?
Silly question... of course I am.

Yus! And a tail is always an extension of the backbone, so it DOES jut out of the bottom of the spine...

The question is, where is the bottom of the spine? On a human, the sacrum -- forming the back of the pelvic girdle is part of the spine, technically, and at the bottom of this shield-like bone are usually three or four tiny bones that are all that remain of *our* tails. Our tails, if we had them, clearly would not just out of our backs just above the pelvis, but would hang below quite low. But you see a lot of furry art like that, with tails that begin just about at the normal belt-line. It's not right. Even on cats, who can erect their tails vertically, you can still draw a line on one side of which is the tail and the other side of which is the entire pelvis.

Right. That's Example A in my diagram. Willa, above, can be categorized as Example B. She looks a little off because the line of her spine apparently does an S curve just below the pelvic girdle.
I took the liberty of doing a quick redline:

At least to me, this slight shift makes an already delightful drawing even better!

That's a pretty small change... I don't necessarily disagree with it, but at the same time it hardly seems noticeable. My prime concern wasn't the precise anatomical location but the overall curve of the tail, which had to be graceful and balance the picture. The modification does no great harm to the overall scheme, however.
