There is some influence for sure! Actually, some years ago I started on a comic where Zorori enters a sumo tournament with the intention to cheat and win money (but it doesn't turn out well for him). I never finished the comic unfortunately, but the concept kind of evolved into the fox/wolf sumo stuff I am drawing now.
They've been eternal rivals since youth, but nowadays their animosity towards each other has softened somewhat and they occasionally hang out together. It's not something they would want their respective teams to know about though, since they want to encourage rivalry between their teams.
