The gekkan is a small mammal-like reptile found all over Fronterra. An opportunistic omnivore, they can comfortably adapt to almost any environment, and subsist on anything from fruit to bugs to carrion to small game to garbage. Though unrelated to squamata, they share many traits in common with them, including a snake-like olfactory apparatus and the ability to swallow objects nearly their own size. Their spines move vertically like a mammal's, despite their outwardly reptilian appearance.
Most are oviparous, though live-birthing species do exist.
Countless subspecies are currently known, with more being discovered regularly. Most consider it a pest, though some have taken to keeping them as pets.

They're also sortof Ryla's signature animal, being her go-to form for stealth and scouting.
