Since people like to see my process, here's a big post of the pose sketches I do!
I do 2-4 of them for almost all commissions, either all the same theme or different ones. Then I send it over to the commissioner to pick from, and do a full sketch based on that pose.

Level of detail varies, sometimes it's more stick man like, other times it has more body details.
