hmm i don't know. the noise looks better than a flat color would but i think a very large scaled and gradual value transition might look better. like add some heavy noise to a small image then Gaussian blur it to soften it up. then expand that to the size of your full texture. then a simple tillable bump map of some kinda scale pattern would wipe out any "fakeness" from the surface.
