Not all smokers are inconsiderate, but it only takes one to decide it's their right to belch carcinogenic, addictive smoke over everyone else, because obviously their right to not have the stench of old smoke all over their fursuits, clothes, food, skin etc. is less important than some asshole's need to get a fix right here and now, instead of in the designated smoking area.
In which case, it's up to responsible smokers, who get enough flack for the actions of their irresponsible fellows, and anyone else involved to politely remind the chap with the cancer stick that they're not alone and should be considerate of others. Possibly using a broom handle to make the point.

But I agree 100% with your sentiments on this.
Oddly, I despise smoking in RL, but I find it to be attractive on furry characters in artwork and stories. Go figure.

Something that I've had happen, and that's extremely annoying is that me and a friend(or even myself solo) will be enjoying a cigarette in an out of the way place, away from others and some person or group of people will show up and decide that they want to loiter in the same place. Now, I'm talking places that there is no attraction to be at. Then the others will start making the overly exaggerated coughs and comments and other bullshit. That's kind of the flip side of the coin and quite aggravating.
And whyyy oh why does the gasmask remind me of Dr Who? Just like your Mommy spoof in the elevator a few of these ago XD Brilliant!
As a smoker I try to be considerate. Yes I know its bad for me, yes I know its bad, yes I know smoke bothers people. I do not need you coming over to stage a protest Thats why I am away from doors down wind, out in the open, will otherwise go out of my way to try not to offend a non smoker. If I go to your house I shower first if it really bothers you and/or while I am there will step off your property to smoke and make sure any butts are properly disposed of as not to litter. I can go on...
It irks me even with those steps a nonsmoker will target me, come up to me and or harass me about my habbit when I was clearly nowhere near them, bothering them or in a position that my smoke was affecting them in any way other than they see me smoking. Most of the time if I am away from everyone having a smoke it is because I am trying to take a break to get away from people in the first place.
Not all are like that, I'm VERY courteous when I'm having myself a smoke. I smoke outside and by myself. Not all smokers are that inconsiderate, it's like saying all furries are 40 year olds who live in their mother's basement. It just depends on the person.
In smoker's defense I have seen them gather in a smoking area then non-smokers wander over and start to hassle them so I guess it goes both ways. I just wish people would learn to do things in the proper place and avoid doing it in the improper places, you shouldn't light up in the headless lounge any more then non-smokers need to hang out in the smoking section.
Hell, I even hide my cigarette when kids are around. The last thing I want to do is pass on my habits to another generation.
Let their parents make that mistake.
