It's the Fourth of July, the boom-booms are going off all over the neighborhood, so naturally I'm thinking that it will be Halloween in just a few months.
The photo used on this image is one that I actually shot on color film in the fall of 1980. The TV repair shop where I used to work was kitty corner to the mall, and consequently is not visible in this picture.

It was done with the owners permission as they had abandoned the motel. It had so much wrong with it it could not be reopened and the owner walked away creating a potential crack house or other menace to the area so it was decided to burn it down so it would be cheaper to tear down rather than demolish it.
As fortune would have it, I have what is likely the last and most complete photo record of The Gobbler Supper Club in its pre-music venue state. In a fit of pique, I socially engineered a tour out of the owners, a trio-cum-duo of local car dealers who had foolishly bought it 20 years ago or so to try to flip it. They were interesting characters -- and the place, the place is something to behold. Nothing left of the motel but some burnt trees and badly weathered concrete pads. And the Johnson Creek police that wonder what you're doing up there.
My entire family on my dad's side was from Michigan and most of my uncles worked for Ford at that time. I was only able to get there to visit relatives twice but had fun both times. Once was during the 4th of July and I remember almost setting a neighbors tree on fire with a small rocket.
I loved MI but wouldn't want to go back there now.

I've recently passed by this area a few months ago. The mall's now long gone, only the Sears building still remains.
So sad to see these malls crumble into dust. Long gone are the Meadowbrook, Great Oaks, and Winchester Malls in Rochester Hills, Tel-Twelve Mall in Southfield, Livonia's other mall Wonderland, and now the Livonia Mall.
Up next to be turned into a pile of rubble is the The Summit Place Mall in Pontiac, which is very sad because that mall was my former hangout place as a kid and teen.
