Practical anthro-Gryphon armor (by PelzigenGuillotine)
This is a design for an outfit of Griffin-themed medieval fantasy armor for my 'sona Auric. PelzigenGuillotine and I collaborated on the design to try to come up with something that was realistic and functional as well as looking good.
This is an Asian style medium armor designed for unmounted foot combat with a polearm (naginata/glaive) that is light enough to be used in flight and can be stripped down to its most essential pieces to become a light armor for use on foot or in flight.
We paid a lot of attention to the design for the helmet, since a helmet is the single most important piece of armor for real combat. Designing a practical and functional helmet for a canine head is an interesting challenge, particularly if it is going to both provide good protection for the muzzle and still allow the wearer to fully open their mouth to breathe/pant. The bird's head shape of the helmet, with its peaked crested top and beak helps deflect blows and provides full protection for the wearer's muzzle. The hinged lower jaw of the helmet's beak has a strap that goes over the wearer's lower teeth which allows it to open and close with the wearer's own mouth. This allows it to be quickly and easily closed for protection or opened when the wearer needs to pant to cool down, which is an important consideration for any extended combat by a furred anthro that doesn't sweat. The large eye holes provide a good field of vision for the wearer and have 'eyebrow' ridges above and below them to deflect a sliding point away from the eye hole. The eye holes can be covered with grilled visors or bars for better protection but they aren't shown in this illustration, since they are not needed for a medium armor. There are holes for the wearer's ears with ridged 'cups' to provide decent protection for the ears when the wearer holds their ears back so they are within the cups. The 'ear cups' have detachable extensions or 'visors' like the eye holes that can provide full protection for the ears if desired.
Note that the character wearing the armor here is a winged golden jackal, but you can't really tell that because the bird-shaped full helmet that actually protects his head and muzzle makes him look like an anthro-gryphon.
I don't think this has been posted by PelzigenGuillotine yet, since we are planning to do an updated version.
