There can never be a place like Disneyland, or could there?

Here's a concept sketch for something I'd like to paint some day. It's Lance, (or based off of Lance, it doesn't have to be him) from Apocalypse Now. It's a mix of different parts of the movie, the background is from the battle at Do Long bridge when he was on acid. He had a beret on in that scene, but I wanted his crazy little-boy hair in the picture.
Lance is such a tragic character, they all are, but his innocence is touching. I'm glad he makes it home alive.
My goal here is to have him look like a soldier, but also like a little boy taking it all in.
Sigh. I just want my boyfriend back. I fucking hate this stupid war.
