He was in his early 20s when he joined the reformed German Luftwaffe fought over Poland France the battle of Brittan and the defense of the Reich against allied bombers. He was then transferred to a 262 unit in '45 where he surrender to the Allies. He was then transferred back to the Luftwaffe after it's reformation and reinstated to his old rank of Major at the age of 40.
