The numbering format for each white zone inmate is: <MOVING SHAPE> [RANDOM 5 DIGIT PRIME NUMBER] <ICON>
This numbering system is entirely arbitrary and deliberately confusing. The idea of numbering an individual is ultimately meaningless, since there was no "first person ever" and life is constantly living, moving, dying and being reborn. Assigning numbers her is decidedly arbitrary and cumbersome. It also adds flavor to an otherwise cold sterile, robotic atmosphere. It also gives inmates something to do, try and figure out what they mean even though they basically mean nothing, with the exception of the first part:
The first part, the moving shape, is there because saying "spinning triangle" or "blinking rhombus" is fun! It also is there to remind inmates to keep moving and not fall into a funk, for one cannot heal or stay healthy without motion! Or something like that. Or whatever you want, really.
The rate at which the shape moves is directly related to an inmates stay time: When they get here, their shape moves at 2 cycles/second Each year it gets slower and slower, at a curved rate described by a function I haven't decided on yet. Probably 1/x per year but the start of that curve is too sharp, so maybe a stretched out parabola. Inmates are not told any of this.
The second part, the random 5 digit prime, is there because a number needs to be in there somewhere and I chose prime numbers because it is hard for inmates to form groups based merely on their number (for example, no odds/evens.) Also, 5 digits seems to be just right, and 5 is a Fibonacci number, so there's that too. No two inmates are to have the same number until all 5 digit primes have been exhausted.
The third part, the icon, is an idea I admittedly got from Doctor Who, where in a one episodes set in the future of humanity (gridlock I think it was) people used words in addition to numbers for things like years and bureaucracy number (like year 10-25-acorn-12 or Car number 55104-Diamond-001) and I thought hey There's a neat idea I think I'll expand on it! So this is the result. I am using the icons more or less in order but it is not meant to indicate anything when assigned to inmates Any one of these can be chosen at random for WZ inmates. However these icons may be used instead of numbers in other areas of the A.R.C. lower facility when radial labeling is necessary or when something is a multiple of 16.
The icons for permanent residents will be certain ASCII symbols and other symbols, that represent something without depicting it, such as odd punctuation or Greek/Cyrillic letters (not too many of either to avoid a trend). They also have to sound good when spoken but not be too close to a normal letter or anything found on a normal keyboard. Things like schwa, pilcrow, aleph, to name a few.
I did not show any here since I didn't have room and didn't want to add another column.
All of these icons were drawn by me using vectors. I reserve all right to each icon with the possible exception of lattice and staircase which are so basic, I cant claim that they are my own unique version of that icon.
If you want to buy any of these icons let me know, they are all infinitely scalable. Each icon was between 5 and 10 minutes, getting them JUUUST right
All of the basic geometric shapes are basic geometric shapes so I claim no copyright on them.
This will go in scraps when I post some new commission info.
UPDATE: added Chevron, increased resolution, added text

Oh whoops I meant to mention that. I left out the permanent list since I am just using ascii and other characters that represent something without depicting it. The shape speed will stil say how long they have been there, halving every year (or two years to spread it out) approaching but never achieving standstill
that doctor who thing, i think it was crimson, 13, delight, petrichor, and it was a psychic door key for a door in the tardis. absolutely positive about the door part, and everything but the number in the door key. yeah, i'm a whovian. so? its fun, its neat, it inspires, and the whole thing started on a shoestring budget. seriously, they used plungers and sparks for one of the enemies firing their destructo-beam of death at anyone, it was so low-budget at first. now they have complex cgi and fancy graphics. neat how it evolved. sorry, rambling. i tend to do that. almost did it again. anyway, nice idea for the inmate system.
Yeah it's funny even the cgi it uses now is cheap... The show still has a low budget feels to me.
But I don't mean that episode, the one where "the house" takes over. Those were psychic keys and required memory of the thing, not the word itself. No, go back an watch Gridlock (Chris ecleston I think) and the other episode set on the same planet at a different time, involving a hospital with cat nurses (David tenant.) it's at the start of the hospital one and towards the end of the gridlock one.

Now I was curious... according to The Internet[tm], "There are 8363 prime numbers between 10,000 and 100,000."
Spinning Triangle 12029 Raindrop
🔄🔺12029💧
I think that would be mine. Spinning triangle because of personal reasons, numbers are my month, day, and zodiac number, and raindrop because I like Water-types.
If I was voluntary, I would be book 📖 because I am a Ravenclaw, but as for permanent, I would be gamma, because it represents photons.
