During the Critters' story, half of them end up frozen inside crystals while the other half - Auger among them - end up with their emotions gone completely crazy, their negative traits getting intensified to the point where they can't do their jobs anymore. Auger usually runs the Block Shelter, a sprawling underground maze of a warehouse where the elements that make up the System are stored for use by the others; he's naturally a bit shy, but when it gets cranked up to eleven, he ends up avoiding all contact and burrowing himself back into the farthest part of the Block Shelter he can reach.
