I dunno, I kinda enjoyed Space Jam! It definitely was very OOC for the characters involved, but somehow I can never bash that movie too much.
A shame that the more in-character 'Back in Action' didn't have much success and scared Warner Bros. away from trying to do something more with that.

Regular drawing, messing with new things, and periodic anatomy study. Tutorials can help you get started.
Also, in digital colouring you want to avoid using gradients and patterns, at least unaltered. It gives it a computery-feel and tends to feel inauthentic in my experience. But on the other hand, I've seen some great images with them, so...
