The over-dress and the beads are what really remind me of it. The Ainu lived on lands that are now split between japan and Russia, but the people are almost entirely relocated to Japan now. Culturally, though, they used to be very strongly linked to south eastern Russians, so it's likely their fashions played into one another pretty heavily.
Well, I found Chudo-Yudo as a Russian monster in "Frost and Fur", described as "giant saltwater and freshwater octopi that lurk beneath bridges and docks. They use their peculiar magical abilities to lure travelers to their doom... [During winter] they lurk under the ice, camouflaged completely white."
I thought white tentacles erupting out of the ice under a Russian bridge was...something player-characters would not expect XD
However, Googling I find most of the references to Chudo Yudo are of some kind of multi-headed dragon or hydra...?
