I never agreed with the crowbar argument, if you have a better weapon a hammer is lighter and easier to manage :)

yes, but a crowbar not only can bash things, but it's a crowbar, you can use it to open stuff

What will you need body armor for, when they don't shoot at you?

actually in a zombie world it's not the zombies you have to worry about, in six months they'll be deteriorated or in winter they'll freeze.
It's bandits and thugs you need the armor for, they'll us the lawlessness as a reason to cause chaos

Crossbow?

Better to go with a standard bow and arrow - easier maintainance, easier to repair. Of course, the crossbow is easier to wield...

lol well you hole up in someplace sturdy for a few months till winter, then move to a stronger place.
zombies have no body heat and therefore will freeze solid quickly
