Rye was originally a leave to a harsh and abusive master before he was freed by Syrus, Grimm, Wilhelm, Satoshi, and Blupadding on one of their journeys. After it was discovered that Ryu was now Satoshi's partner, Ryu began calling him Master as well, but this time with a great amount of love and loyalty towards him. Ryu pretty much acts as Satoshi's bodyguard/second older brother, who prefers cloth diapers and is terrified of ladybugs.
