Alley Cat Blues Finalists
Well, it's pretty much come down to these two versions, no.1 (formerly no.3) and no.2 (formerly no.4). Yet another "lunch" sketch. On this cat, the body fits the face a little better. I had also considered, as well as someone suggested, that giving the adult females "safe" bosoms...which is simply breasts without nipples, more or less, so they can be exposed, showing femininity, yet still being within decent parameters. So, option 1 has this included in the design. She's still wearing clothes, too, just not a whole lot ^^; She doesn't need to cover up as much as opt.2, because...well...she doesn't have as much to show
As for option 2, she stays about the same. And, I think that's it

Well, I'm not sure, but if you're wondering if the cats are going to be neon yellow or bright purple, then the answer is no If you're asking if they'll all be one breed, then the answer is no again The cats will be assorted. Some will be specific breeds (Himalayan, for example) but, most will simply be common alley cats of mixed breeds...the equivalent of a mutt to a dog
Thank you! ^_^ Although with this story, the style would be very similar since it would be the mother making the garments. For example, everyone would get a vest. The boys would get shorts while the girls would get skirts and a bustier. No one wears shoes. The only real sense of style would be pattern (on the fabric) and sometimes girls put things in their hair like flowers or discarded ribbon
#1
I just had to be different! Regardless, I do like them both. I love the simplicity of #1 and I think that the characters will have well established personalities, hairstyles, markings and features that clothing wouldn't really be the distinguishing feature of importance.
As an example I always think of Top Cat and his alley cat crew. As seen here. Granted your characters won't be flat colored or with solid colors as they are. Nor will they be as crudely drawn. ;)
As it stands it looks like the popular vote leans towards #2 by a landslide with my vote being the odd one out.

Actually, it's not a landslide! It's actually still very close. I'm polling people on various sites to see what people are thinking and right now, I'm getting a lot of varying responses You are right, though, that hairstyles, markings, etc. can distinguish characters as well, if not better, than clothing can and would be the feature of importance here And thanks for the reference and the compliment *hugs*
If I may barge in with an oplinion?
It also depends a bit on the story you want to tell.
Choosing nr 1, to put it in simple terms, might catch and hold a little more male readers. Which I think is fine, because men like sexy things, but often prefer no porn. (at least, I do) And it does not feel like porn without the nipples. So I'd go for option one.
However, option 1 will distract a bit from the story, which you may not want if the story is complex, or if you really want to convey an important message to you readers. I'm not saying I wouldn't pay attention to the story with option 1. Indeed the more I fall in love with the characters, the more important the story becomes, and option 1 might even help there (men are visually oriented creatures), even though it can also easily happen with option 2. But the focus shifts a little toward the art with option 1.
So... I honestly can't decide.
They're both a joy to look at. Like the clothes too. Simple, which is good given the ally cat background. *favs*

By all means! I welcome opinions And yours is quite intriguing! I want this to appeal to both men and women. For the most part, with regards to art, women typically like pretty things Your comment about what draws men is interesting. The stories aren't too complex, they're actually pretty simple in nature, yet hold enough of a story to hold the reader's attention. So, perhaps the engagement of the art would help me in this case. Thank you so much for your help!
No, it completely helps Thank you! I actually don't want this to be an overly sensual comic. I have nephews that are 10, 7 and ...well...too young to know how to read ^_^; and I want them to be able to read this comic, too. So, I want to keep it tame, but still "cool" enough so that they would want to read it, too.
I'd go with either, depending on the setting of the story. #1 is cool for an animalistic pov, since they wouldn't naturally see anything wrong in covering themselves up, but might enjoy wearing partial clothing for either status purposes (much like pack rats steal certain objects to attract mates), or to emulate humans to some degree.
#2 is also cool for an already established (humanistic) society, basically like we would be if we had fur.
But for this story setting, at least with the impression that I get about this story setting, I'd go with #1.

I'm thinkin numero uno. But maby number one tho. Oh, wait-a-sec...
But yeah, this one's a better "model." Looks more mature. The "womanly features" fit better on her. As funny as that sounds.XD Number 2 is cute and all but I like number 1 better for some odd unbenonst to me reason. -shrug- The little bitta clothing distinguishes their character and their hair helps that too. But 1 made Sally from Sonic pop into my mind at first with the little vest.XD

*giggles* You went all over there a bit Sally has come up a lot with this sketch. It must be because of the vest...yet the lack of boots...hmm... I wonder if there's something else that I could use for the girls. Maybe the boys would get vest and the girls...skirts? *thinks*
I don't really get what "went all over there a bit" meant.XD But it's definitely the little vest that reminds people of Sally. There are very few things with Sally without her blue boots on but it don't matter if there aren't boots because the vest is the other main thing she's associated with. But skirts ain't a bad idea in my own mind. Although I can't see guys with the little vest thingy on but definity leather jackets. Well, maby not.
I, personally, do not seem to see enough "safe" art in terms of old-style cartoons-
(which is, of course- They have shapes, but they don't mean anything)
I would think, that, if essentially feral, you would -probably- see not so many clothes being worn with option One-
like, maybe a watch-
a scarf in the winter. . .
any clothes that ARE worn would be specifically to portray personality, I would think O-o
