[2015]
And we've reached 2015! This is part of a tale from Flynns childhood, of the twin fox-shifters who would start his clan! Let me see if I can find the story...
"The white fox, he signifies love, serenity and healing. His name is Diancecht. His twin, Mymo, is luck, passion and protectiveness. Apart, they mean nothing.."
Reaching out, Flynn takes the two carvings and connects them, the two foxes making an almost perfect circle.
"But together, they are whole. It's stupid-"
Blush. Not as non-believing as you say you are Flynn.
"The twins are, uh"
How did he say this.
"I..I did some digging. On what I was. Turns out I'm what we call a Spiorrach. Spirit Fox, kind of. The twins.."
He nods to the figures.
"Were Spiorrach. The product of a human falling in love with a wild Spirit.."
Here he pauses, because Pyro's slowly realising how much of a nerd they are.
"He was my, uh, something-th grandfather. We weren't actually ginger back then. She was a white fox. The twins came from them, the son as white as the moon, like his mother, and the daughter as red as the foxes of the wilds. As soon as they were weaned, and no longer needed her, their mother vanished, leaving them with the clan.
Throughout her life Mymo had always been the wilder of the two. She hunted, preferred her fox form, and was as flighty as the beast within her. Diancecht was the opposite. He loved being 'human', and was gifted as a shaman.
When they came of age the twins were expected to play their part. Diancecht never had children, but Mymo bore just one. A girl, the first Matriarch. She left that child with her brother and vanished into the woods, as her mother before her, and did not return except for once.
Sometimes she could be seen watching over the clan, she would aid in hunts only to vanish, but it wasn't until, many years later, they saw her properly.
It was on the day of her brothers funeral. She walked right up to the casket, curled up on top of it to sleep, and never woke up again...."
