I don't know, I love to imagine Bernard as Arabic, because he reminds me of Jafar. His dad would be Muslim and his mom Christian (the Coran allows Muslim men to marry non-Muslim women), that's why his name is Bernard. He grew up in... I don't know at all. Egypt ? Marocco ? Southern Spain (it was Midle Ages, it belonged to Muslims) ? Liban ? I didn't decide yet. He studied laws and was very ambitious, wishing to rule a country one day, and he was smart and studious enough to learn French without any accent and leave for France in which he quickly became the chancellor in King Noble's kingdom.

And then he got too ambitious.
