Is it bad that I thought the term "firefight" was literal?
Well anyway, here's an idea: Make the gas extremely pressurized, resulting in a big boom if someone on the opposing side gets the idea to shoot her. Assuming this is a magic transformation that will allow her to reform afterwards, of course.
