If he was more sci-fi I'd recommend beryllium. If you didn't know better, you'd think a solid block of it was hollow and it's pretty strong, too. If you alloy it with aluminum, it gets even better, and it more or less solves the fact that beryllium oxide is toxic.

Very nice looking armor. Have you considered a light material such as mithral to address the weight concerns and mobility?

Occasionally, but that wouldn't be entirely appropriate given the tech level the Thoradan work with; iron and steel are relatively rare, so mithral would be almost unheard of. That said, if they hit a vein of the stuff, I'm sure they'd use it heavily.

The stuff is not cheap. My Pathfinder cleric of Erastil, Vargus spent most of the gold he earned adventuring on a special crafted mithral breast plate for his avian anatomy as well as a mithral buckler.

Yeah, I remember from my 3.5 days. Adamantine was even worse, IIRC.

I've been spending some time developing Thordani armor. I suspect that the back plate would be mostly nonexistent, since anyone who gets behind them can seriously screw them up via wing injuries.
