This is an arrangement of the final dungeon music from Final Fantasy 8. Here is the original. This was arranged entirely by ear. I love this theme because it's one of the times Uematsu got really classical sounding. In fact the soundtrack for FF8 is probably tied with FF6 for my favorite Uematsu soundtrack. I really didn't like the actual game though...
Anyway, I really wanted to do more variations on the themes the second time around, but I couldn't come up with much. I added some piano and filled up the counterpoint a little bit, and I added a short section in the fast bit just for fun. I couldn't find a good way to end it. One issue I ran into with this one is that it's in the key of A flat, which means at its highest notes means it goes one half-step above the actual range of an organ/harpsichord. Since Finale uses actual instrument samples, this meant my organ and harpsichord would miss that high note, but conveniently at it's lowest note the piece also one half-step above the lowest note in the actual instrument range, so I transposed the whole thing down to G, which I think sounds a bit more natural for this piece anyway.
Coincidentally, the oldest submission in my gallery is also from FF8; it's the final boss theme for two pianos. It still sounds decent to me after all these years.

I remember this song but I don't think I got that far in the actual game. Good job though. One question though. There are live versions of this song right? How do they handle the problem with it being in A flat? Unless they make some kind of work around like you did? Transposing is easy enough I suppose. I didn't always think that though. My piano teacher insisted that I learn how to do it well. I'll admit doing it in my head on the fly is still kind of hard depending on the key. Especially with songs I don't know. Otherwise you can do it by ear.
