Malek got a hold of a faulty evolutionary stone, or maybe it works better than intended, who knows? Not Malek, who has no prior experience with Pokemon. He grabbed what he thought was an interesting mineral or crystal, and before he knew what was going on, his body began to transform. Malek observes his newly finned tail too late. There is no stopping the transformation, even if he dropped the stone now.
