Seriously, that last panel is all sorts of awesome. Nickles shocked tells one thing, but the look on Keda's face... seriously, something's snapped in him, and whereas one would expect him to wuss out after a shot like that in the past... oooh boy, not this time. But, that's the beauty of the underdog.
Something you might want to take into consideration.
The Gryphon species are an offshoot of the 'Superbeast' species which I think makes them lesser superbeast.
Kedamono, though a young superbeast, is not an offshoot of the superbeast lineage but in fact a superbeast himself.
This fight in my opinion is on a level playing field. Who is to say that Kedamono is at a disadvantage, I think Kedamono has the advantage.
A little tip from Naurto... The class clown is one of the more unpredictable of opponents.
Dish out the smack down Kedamono!

Last time I checked a gryphon can't live 150+ years, perform special/magical abilities...
yes Kedamono is a young superbeast but the little guy is lucky and a class clown. ...He used a cardboard cutout to escape unnoticed in a room full of Gryphons, not many can do that. I think the gryphon race got most of the muscle and not much else.
Kedamono's advantage is small but it is there. The little/big guy keeps finding new ways to slip past their expectations.

True in many senses.
But I am also going by what I see and read.
The gryphons used brute force and firebombs to destroy the village. I have yet to see a gryphon do anything exceptional other than fly and impressive feats of strength, I even remember reading a page where it implied that gryphons live the average amount of time and not the extended amount of time as superbeast (This is also further implied in the cast pages). Superbeast are strong, showed a variety of talents and live in the area of 500 years.
In my opinion gryphons are the chicken to the superbeast T-Rex... though that analogy is grossly incorrect it does state what I am implying.
Only time and more updates will tell how this pans out.
I'm rooting for Kedamono... Something tells me that he is going to learn his first superbeast talent in this fight for his life. I could be wrong and I could be correct, I really don't care but I do hope this fight is good.

I'm getting conflicting images from our avian friends. At one point, we see the gryphons as the typical bad guys, without any morality or compassion. On the other hand, it seems like they're really not that bad and it's really 'just business' kind of thing, fueled by 'boss'.
Hmm, well, let's take a look at the common Sasamel (city in which the Zapatos are based)-dwelling gryphon/avian mentality first.
"Sasamel is Sasamel, and everyplace else is the sticks."
(This can also be replaced with any other major city in which gryphons and avians predominantly live) So already there's a sense of a better-than mentality, though not necessarily warranted. Further complicating this is the varying degrees of racial hostility that they have toward those unlike themselves (common in homogeneous societies, esp. in an era where the world is still quite large). Adding to this is their view of Vulfpachts, which are, in their view, an invasive race whose simple are viewed as backward and primitive to their notions of dandyism and "progress".
Limiting this to the night managers, the Familiars, and Valdez, and taking into account that they are individuals and professionals, there are definitely different levels of "evil" present in them. If we were to order them from most evil to least evil, wherein "evil" is defined by willingness to kill and hurt others, and whether they've actually done so:
"Daddy" Valdez*
Rin Tin Dennis*/Nickles*
Iron Keith*
Youngsilver
Familiar #1/Familiar #2
*Denotes killing, whether directly or indirectly
Valdez is the most evil in that he orders the killings, or gives orders that indirectly result in killing. Dennis actually had murdered prior to joining the Zapatos (he was a hired killer for the Camisas gang in Bower City before circumstances forced him to "transfer", so to speak). Nickles doesn't fall too far behind, already having a record of assault and battery before he joined up with the Zapatos, but had not killed prior to this. The two previously mentioned are the most zealous about putting the hurt on people. It's simply a job they are suited to, and love.
Youngsilver, as him name implies, is young and was probably caught up in some romanticized version of organized crime at the time of his induction. While he was never a stranger to trouble, he doesn't like the idea of needless killing, but feels he's already in too deep to try to backpedal out of things.
The Familiars are a different story. They don't originally hail from the major avian cities, and having been exposed to different races of people regularly throughout their lives, don't have the same sort of condescending views as their city-dwelling cousins. Therefore, it isn't all that hard for them to accept members of different races as their equals. Also, considering they were sticks boys, were probably unaware of the racket in Sasamel until it was too late. Their jobs are mostly as paper pushers with a minimum of field work, so they don't see a huge amount of what goes on, but are fully aware of it. But like Youngsilver, they are already in too deep.
Long reply is long. D:
