I always consider Identify to be an essential spell.

You know what's better than Identify? the Divine version of Identify. You don't have to pay for the components.

Mage first world problems

Clerics are easier to play than wizard earlier, but they get flashy stuff a bit later

i prefer wizarder even though i've only played once and that was back in middle school as a paladin, i haven't played due to me be too shy for randos online, no friends nearby that wanna play, and my go to want of my wizard character isn't exactly the most welcomed of options :c

Also, any player worth their salt knows that starting level spellcasters should never engage in melee combat, and so touch spells are really not the best of ideas. You stay in the back ranks and throw magic missiles and help your tanks by casting faerie fire on the enemies or putting them to sleep. If your wizard is having to fight in melee, the whole party is in trouble.

Me, I like picking up Charm person, and charming an NPC or even a dungeon monster to be my best friend and protect or fight for me.

The last spellcaster I played was Zahardi (archivist). He ended being the group's tank sorta and have the highest kill count with weapons.

So basically, Status Effect spells are only useful (to an extent) in Table Top games and are awful in Video Game RPGS

Pretty much, there is much more options with sleeping, stunned or charmed target on the table top. A video game can't emulate all the possible options.
