Yep then you get hit with a hail storm... then sunny... then a thunderstorm and sunny...
Then you are out in the field doing a forced march... you hear thunder and see the squall line coming with dark tendrils... You think here come the rain only to have the DI yell "Head for cover!" then you see the trees and ground come alive with what looks like gun fire... That's when you see it's hail and not little stuff... There is a covered shelter about 150 meters away and you all run for it as the DIs are trying to get the slower guys to move faster... A couple of guys saw they were not going to make it so they headed for the trees... I just made it to the shelter as the hail started coming down. One guy two DIs drug him to the trees to get him out of harms way... Some of the hail was golf ball sized, a few found were racket ball sized. Most of it was 1/2 to 3/4 inch size.

That big stuff can put a world of hurt on you. The shelter roof was pock marked from the hail storms. Sargent Johnson told us about one trainee that got caught in one hail storm tripping in the mud face first, ending up with two cracked ribs and looking like someone had used his backside for a punching bag. Someone said he was BSing us. He told us it was him that got hurt in basic training before going over to Nam... So that kept him back two cycles and likely kept him from dying over there, because the unit he would have been with, 60% of them came home in a bag.
Really pretty!
We had a great one here in Colorado too, thunder clouds hanging low on the horizon out east, but then further east were some really high altitude plumes that were just whisps, looked like solar loops jumping up from behind mountains. And with the filter of smoke from the fires, the colors of sunrise and set are stunning!!!!
Sadly, I'm working for both sun up, and down, and the camera on my phone leaves MUCH to be desired for actual photography. Not to mention an industrial truck lot in the foreground....
None the less, I enjoyed my moment of zen, and I certainly hope you did as well!!!!

well, part of the problem I ran into is my dad Promised to give me his tools so I Could be a mechanic... but when the time came to turn them over, he wanted new tools...
I wouldn't have had a problem with that, IF HE DIDN'T WANT THEM BEFORE I GOT HIS CRAPPY OLD FUCKING TOOLS.
$50,000 worth of snap-on master mechanic set, or he wouldn't give me his $15,000 worth of old cheap chinese and craftsmen tools so I COULD earn the money.
if clinton hadn't been RIFing the military when I got out of highschool I would have gone Navy, and not worried about it

This picture got me thinking about a small city in central Colombia called Villavicencio. The airport there is the home base for a number of small regional airlines that still operate DC-3s. They make dangerous flights over extremely remote parts of the country east of the Andes, primarily to isolated villages scattered throughout the region.
