That explains it. I watched the original, but never watched Brotherhood as it was just a retelling (primarily) of the original series, but with some things happening differently. So I would've spent my time yelling at the screen "That didn't happen like that!" and rage-quitting. x3 So I'd recommend either series, really, if you're just starting out and haven't seen a single episode yet, but I wouldn't recommend watching both of them. If you just want an interesting take on the original '03 series, then go for it. Hell, you might like Brotherhood better, but I started watching it expecting it to be a sequel to FMA and was really disappointed to find out that it was just a different take on it. ~shrugs~ That could just be me, though. ^^
I've watched both, and love both hugely! the reason why the 03 one was so different was because the original manga hadnt been finished yet, so they asked the author Hiromu if they could take it where they wanted, so they did. Then she finished the manga and made brotherhood so it was more accurate to the original story she wrote in the end. :)
But like I said FMA is a special thing for me, so I love all the episodes of both series, and both movies are very dear to me! :D

I didn't know that! So that's why they were so different. Thanks for telling me, I just thought the studio was doing a "What if" thing with it, and decided to redo the series and make a few things different. That explains a lot, actually, now I wish I'd seen Brotherhood first. Ah well, maybe someday I can go watch that series and see for myself. ^^
Yeah, Twilight-Goddess explained it to me. When I first tried to watch Brotherhood I thought it was going to be a sequel, so a large part of why I didn't like it much came from that, as I was expecting a sequel to the 03 series and got a 'reboot' instead. I just wish I had seen Brotherhood first, so I'd be able to enjoy it more (and like I said earlier, I might go and watch Brotherhood anyway someday, just to see how I like it. As my nostalgia for the series has worn off a bit now.)
Either way, you did a totally awesome job on this! =3

I think Brotherhood was thrice a better series than the 03 one. It feels just more like a thought out complete... novel. The other series had this cheap tv series touch to it and the ending didn't really excite me.
But I think the beginning of the first series was way better, smoother. In brotherhood it felt rushed compared. And the scene were Edward was crying because he had almost died... I don't recall such a reaction in brotherhood. And I absolutely loved that scene, that they made an anime character act like a normal human person for once.
