Piece I got from Clemikou of my 'sona as a Jedi Knight for the May 4th celebrations.
As it is now July 15th... There were a couple hiccups. xD Nevertheless, badass dragon with a badass claymore-saber. Yes, I liked the sword. And yes, he actually fights in a western style that makes that kind of weapon MAKE SENSE.

The thing was that people who knew the lore of Star Wars (before Disney stepped in) and understood how light sabers worked was that the cross guard had only 2 things. 1. A better chance to cut off your own hand while fighting with it and 2. The "Cross Guard" was made because the crystal you used for your saber was too powerful to be sustained by your saber systems so "exhaust ports" if you will, were made to channel away extra energy flow... Which did not block other sabers and provided no extra defense... I'm sure Disney changed that though. Pretty much Cross Guards only looked cool or you had a over powered Crystal and either instead of getting a bigger hilt for stronger components, vents were made instead. Though cross guards did have a slight advantage which was you can still harm someone with those cross guards
In general, I've found the Star Wars extended lore to be a lumbering mess of conflicting information which attempt simultaneously to outdo itself and justify the outrageous scales and fridge logic it leaves in its wake. I prefer the idea that someone had the brilliant idea that a saber/saber collision would slide down the blade, and that a crossguard might be a handy thing to have to keep them from slicing off your hands. Just like real life.
The lore explanation strikes me as someone trying to justify something that didn't need justification, who had no knowledge of real swordplay. :/
