This is a story from the Conversion setting that was written for and then rejected from an anthology, so I'm sharing it here. It's a little more focused on the human characters, because the anthology in question wasn't targeted specifically at the fandom.

I've officially declared this to be removed from the 'canon.' There's a lot I didn't plan particularly well, and there's some timeline wonkiness. Some version of these events likely happened before the 'main' story (which is why this is in Scraps), but this is probably something I'll completely rewrite down the line.
