Once I started getting into Rome: Total War, I found that my "go to" nation was Macedonia. I also fell in love with how cool phalanxes look, with the masses of spears tilting down in lines, and along with the Macedonian heavy cavalry, I become a force that people fear to reckon with.
I went and did some research on how phalanxes were most effective, and how they were defeated by the Romans. Then I adjusted my tactics accordingly to fix their problems, and I've been able to do very well. By using hypaspists on the sides of my phalanxes to guard the flanks, or holding my phalanxes in a forward "^" formation, it's very hard for even elite Romans to get through my lines.
From this, I've been able to defeat all of my friends, and any and all other contenders and pretenders I've faced. Perhaps I'm fiercest Macedonian since Alexander the Great. :P
