I was surprised people knew about Sam's tragical family life he mentions in an episode and wrote about it but NEVER drew about it ! I decided to show how I imagine their design. They usually smile more often, but let's say they're facing Sam.
For those who don't know, in an episode of The Muppet Show, Sam sadly tells Kermit he had a family. His wife left him (and later, in the official Jim Henson site with muppets' bios, it is confirmed they ended up to divorce), and his 2 children, who are in college, never write to him. To Sam's dismay, the boy studies taxidermy and the girl dates an owl. In an in-character 2011 radio interview, the guys who work for the franchise didn't forget about that because Sam mentions his ex-wife again, and this time says her name : Eunice.
So I decided that Eunice and her children left the father of the family because they were fed up of his grouchiness, his overexcessive patriotism and his conservative thoughts. And of course, about his disapproval about his children's choices in life. I also decided that the kids their mother and thought they divoced because of him and that the mother was right, so they have a grudge on him.
Poor, poor Sam. I headcanon he was still in love with Eunice when she asked for divorce so it was the beginning of a long depression, that's why he sounds sad when he talks about her, although he now forgot about her. He gained a bit of weight and started to smoke and drink and was always sad or angry. And now that he is at last out of his depression (and he got a job in the Muppet Show when his dpression ended), he is still grumpier than he used to be and smiles not very often. It affected him ; plus, he really misses his children and wishes one day they'll forgive him (spoiler of my HC : they will. I just want Sam to be happy) ; when I will draw my humanizations of muppets, you'll see that my human Sam would still wear the wedding ring of his failed marriage. In order to remind him it failed because of him and that he has no more family, so one day if he ever finds someone else he'll have to remember to not fuck up things again (Jean is here for that. ;) )
I decided to name the daughter Columbia Michelle the Eagle and the son George Thomas the Eagle. Columbia is 21, George is 19, and they were 12 and 10 when the divorce happened. I tried my best to make them looking like a mix of their parents. I'll talk about them more in the future. They globally look like their mother, but their have the same feet, feather collar and eyes than their father. George even has a monobrow, like him.
Yes, contrary to Sam, Eunice and the kids look like normal bald eagles. Bald eaglets have a blueish, fluffy down and a blue beak, but they lose the down when they grow up and their beak becomes yellow : https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.co.....6cdb245b3a.jpg So what if Sam is a bald eagle who abnormally never lost his eaglet features because of a genetic anomaly ?
