i usually avoid the problem by keepin the linework on a separate layer and then locking it's transparency when it comes the moment to colour it: that way i don't have to use selections lol
i dunno why i didn't fav this before: the background is a bit "off" but i just love the way you did your character, line, colour and shading-wise.
