Chapter 5: Secret between friends
The boys were sleeping nice and calmly yep it was a calm morning until KNOCK KNOCK! “Conrad really again!” The boys sat up quickly “You are cleaning up this gosh dang mess or I will report you!”
Parker sat straight up and felt a surge at his back “Oh no! Please don’t let it be” He lifted the blanket and saw a sight that made him almost cry. Out of his back was a blonde covered tail. The shock from the female counselor being mad must had triggered it and that is when he heard Zane.
“Dude is that….. you have a tail” Zane said
Parker began to whimper “Please don’t hate me it is just a condition I have that my brain thinks I am a rrr dog”
“Hate you? Dude that is so cool and besides I like you for you oh I can’t wait to tell the other guys they will think it is so cool”
“No Zane I want this to be our secret ok. I want to be thought of as normal kid please”
Zane sighed “Ok if you can promise to keep a secret I have”
“Sure name it!” Parker said
Zane gestured him to his bed and quickly lifted the blanket revealing a stuffed dragon that would glow in the dark “I am scared a little of the dark so I sleep with this to make me feel better”
Parker smiled “You don’t tell people I grow a tail I won’t tell them about your dragon let’s shake on it” He offered a furry hand and smiled
Zane smiled “Deal my fuzzy brutha”
The boys took the long way to the dining hall while they waited out Parker’s tail to eventually go away. Parker then explained to Zane the worry and stress he had with his condition and he also learned more about Zane.
“I have epilepsy which means I can have seizures from certain things. That is why my hair has to be really short because if I itch too much it could trigger seizures” Zane said
Parker listened “Can they be dangerous?”
Zane sighed “Well umm yea, it can kill me”
Parker looked down “Oh, suddenly just growing a tail doesn’t seem so bad”
Zane smiled “Hey I think your tail is gone let’s go help the guys clean the girls cabin”
Parker laughed and followed his new friend yep this week of camp wasn’t going to be so bad after all as long as the tail was the worst of it.



Chapter 6: Birthday Boy
“So wait you had paws and a tail?” Zane asked
“Yeah it was crazy but that is when my brother discovered I felt better once he played his music” Parker replied
“Wow that must have been a” Zane opened the cabin door
“SURPRISE!” The boys yelled “Happy Birthday Parker”
Parker’s nose darkened for a second but then went away “Wow guys thanks” Mr. Conrad smiled as they brought out a fire truck cake “Your mom brought this up during free time”
Parker smiled as Mr. Conrad turned on his Ipod and they began to dance and party. The boys then took turns giving him different gifts. Allen gave him his favorite neon headband while Christian and Kent had made a cool banner finally came Zane’s turn.
Zane handed Parker an envelope and he opened it to see a bone shaped card he opened it and said “Friends through good times and ruff times”, which made Parker chuckle.
“Wow you guys rock thanks all of you” Parker said not caring of the little wag in his shorts.
Later that night the boys were about to fall asleep when Zane tapped Parker on the shoulder
“Hey dude you awake” Zane asked
“Nah I just sleep with my eyes open what’s up” Parker asked
“Well I had a weird thought what if you ever become a full dog” Zane asked
Parker sighed “I don’t know I guess no more school”
Zane laughed “I don’t know which one of us has it scarier my seizures or you being a dog”
Parker smiled “Listen my brother told me it is not our condition that makes us who we are but rather what we decide to be”
Zane looked confused
“It means if we let our selves be defined by a condition we lose out on the fun of life. If I become a dog so be it but until it happens I can’t be so scared of it”
Zane smiled “Thanks bro, I needed to hear that and hey happy birthday”
Parker grinned “Thanks now get some sleep we got the big relay game tomorrow”
Zane laughed as he fell asleep.
