Once the only surviving member of it’s genus into the modern age, the Sardinian Pika was a lagomorph native to Corsica, Sardinia, and other near-by Mediterranean islands. Once abundant, they were hunted for their meat by Neolithic humans and became extinct on the main islands around the Roman era.
They were about 9 inches long (22.5 cm) and weighed under a pound (320 grams)
Ultimately, though their presence was thought to have helped humans to establish on the islands, the introduction of dogs, cats, and rabbits pressed them into extinct.
Extinction Date According to the IUCN: 1774
