Second of the set. I decided I needed more practice in digital art since it looks like I won't be buying a scanner any time soon, so I'm doing a series of portraits of characters by artists I admire, and maybe one or two that I just think look cute. The theme is the rainbow so I'll have one of each color and will get to practice working with a more limited palette and setting a tone, instead of just going crazy with a bunch of different colors as I often tend to do.

This... I'm sure no one really needs an intro... is Vinci Nicolaides by the amazingly talented Ryan and Candy Dewalt. I can never keep track of which one thought of what character as I suspect they are telepathically connected or something. I could probably do the entire series out of Ryan and Candy's creations, all of which are obscenely cute, expressive, and delightfully squishy. Her comic has inspired me since I first came across it. And back when I was even less talented than I am now I used to spend hours trying to duplicate her unique style, I've finally given up on that, but she has still definitely left a mark on the way I draw.
Thank goodness Vinci looks somewhat girly anyway. Also I ended up scaling this down a bit more than the Pimo picture, and I'm surprisingly happy with that... but is arm is wonky and now it bugs me. *sigh* Curse you Photoshop for making it so easy to ignore anatomy, and yet so hard to fix it.
