Coincidental Rendezvous
~Prologue~
By Trenton
It was a bright, summer day, and the sun was high in the sky as it was soon turning to noon. But all was not pleasant in the village far to the east, that had a large castle to North of it. The village was in an uproar as the humans ran around in mobs, searching for something, or some one. One group of human’s armed clubs and scythes stood at a corner, keeping watch for their target, hoping it may come by that way.
A black female fox was hiding, running from the villagers as they ran and searched for her. She panted heavily as she leaned against a cold stone wall to an ally way. In hers arms, she held another small black fox with her, pressing her close to her body. A group of humans ran by, asking the men on guard if they had seen the two, the men replied with by shaking their heads. “Damn it! That bitch has got to be here
somewhere. She was for the king, and now she takes off?!”
The small black fox looked up to the older one, “Mom……. I’m scared”, she said with a quivering voice.
Her mother held her close to herself, “I know baby…….But don’t worry. I’ll get you out of this, I promise”. She glanced out the ally way as the group left, leaving only the watchmen there to guard that corner. She looked over just beside them, there was the exit to the village, but it was too far for her to run with her daughter, not without getting caught. She looked down to her daughter, shivering, holding tightly onto her mother in fear. “Honey, when I tell you to, I want you to run over to that door”, she said, pointing to an open door across the street. “You got that?” she asked, in her soft voice.
Her daughter looked up to her mother, “But what about you? Where are you going?” she asked, not wanting to let go of her mother.
Her mother smiled to her, hiding her fear of possibly losing her only daughter. “I’m going to clear a path for you to run. And when I tell you to, I want you to run, and never look back”.
Her daughter hesitated, “But-But what about you?”
She looked down to her daughter, “Honey, I’m not going to lie to you, I’m not expecting to”, she said softly, rubbing her daughter’s back as she bit back some tears.
“Will…….Will we see each other again?” she asked, lightly sobbing, trying not to cry as to not let the watchmen become aware of their position.
“Oh, Sierra, of course we will. When this is all done, I’ll come straight to you. You may not know im there, but I always will be”, Sierra’s mother said, giving her daughter a hug. Her daughter held on tightly, knowing that this was going to be the last time she saw her mother alive. “I love you”, she said, letting go of her daughter.
”I love you too mom”, Sierra said, holding back some tears, but to no avail. They ran down her cheek, but she quickly wiped them away, wanting to stay strong for her mother. Who knew a 15 year old child could be so tough for situations like this. Sierra’s mother looked out of the ally for a quick second, waiting for when they guards turned their backs. “Now”, she said, as the guards weren’t looking. Sierra quickly ran across, her black fur glistened in the sunlight as she ran. She dove into the open doorway, hiding in the shade. She looked across the street, struggling to see her mother in the dark ally. For a second she thought her mother had left her there, and tried escaping by leaving her there. But those thoughts quickly went away as she saw some movement in the darkness.
Just then, Sierra saw her mother jump out of the ally, running towards the men. One of them turned around just in time to see her jump up to him and bite his throat, with a quick twist, she broke his neck immediately. The other men were in shock for only a second before they jumped into action, swinging their weapons around. One of them hit her just across the muzzle, sending pain across her face, with a yelp, she jumped back, letting go of the dead man from her jaw. His body slumped to the ground, his limbs twisting in ways that would normally hurt. Sierra turned her head away, not wanting to see what would happen next.
The men looked at her mother with evil smirks, happy that they had found what they were looking for. They approached her slowly, ready for any attack she might try to pull on them. “Hey bitch, where’s yer kid?” one of the men asked. She just glared at him, not responding to the question. He gave her a shrug, “Fine. We’ll just look for her after we deal with you. We know she’s still in here, no way out”.
She looked at the man, keeping an eye on the other two as they approached her slowly. “Shes safely hidden away where you’ll never get her, and if you lay a hand on her….” She stopped, unable to say what she would do, mostly due to the fact that it would be something she herself didn’t even want to think about.
One of the men cut in, “Whatever, lets get this over with”, he said before he charged Sierra’s mother. She jumped into the air, avoiding the man’s attack, missing her by just a couple of inches. Her daughter stayed inside the doorway, amazed at how agile her mother was.
She came back down quickly, landing on the man’s head, sending him face first into the dirt ground. But just as she landed, one of the men hit her with his club, sending her flying back from the force. One of the men watching from the roves saw her jump into the air, and rang an alarm. This is what she wanted, what she was hoping for, giving little Sierra a chance out of this place. Her mother got up from the ground shakily, trying to regain her balance. The men smiled and sneered at her as they knew they had her now.
“Come now Meoe, is that all you got?” one of them asked, teasing and provoking her as she laid there injured.
Meoe regained her balance and looked around frantically, hearing more and more alarms going now. What was going to happen next she didn’t want young Sierra to see, so she fled. The men turned to one another, looking confused. But only a second later their confused expressions faded, and they began chasing after Meoe.
After Sierra’s mother ran off, with the men following closely behind her. She hesitated to leave though, hoping to see her mother come running back to come pick her up and leave this terrible place. But she knew that wasn’t going to happen, so she took this time now to make a small prayer for her mother, hoping her safety in this terrible time. Quickly getting up, she ran out into the streets, hearing yelling and screaming as the rest of the groups trailed behind her mother through the village. Sierra ran for the exit to the village. After she had made it out, she wanted to run to the mountains and sleep forever, she felt so tired, but she knew she couldn’t stop running. Even after she made it several miles away from the village, she kept running, she ran for as long and as far as she could until she collapsed on the ground exhausted. All the while she was running, hot tears flowed down her face, only now just realizing she would never see her mother again.
She collapsed on some cool grass, hidden under some trees as the sun began to set, the mountains in the distance cutting the day light even shorter. As the sun sank away she was bathed in complete darkness, the sun was not going to be seen until the new day.
As Sierra laid there, exhausted from today’s trials, her chest heaving heavily as they screamed for oxygen, a burning feeling in her chest as her heart raced quickly. Sierra’s mother’s words kept playing over in her mind from earlier before. “When this is all done, I’ll come straight to you. You may not know im there, but I always will be”. She remembered exactly what her mother always said “If at any time you think im gone. Just remember that when im gone, your never really alone, because im always with you. I would never leave you alone. And even when I die, which will happen some day, I will always be with you, looking over you”.
Remembering those things made her miss her mother so much. Sierra wept bitter tears as she remembered all the good times her and her mother had together, spending every chance they got to be with each other. Sierra shut her eyes as she saw her mother playing with her when she was a child. And as Sierra got swept up in these memories, she drifted off to sleep, fortunately landing underneath some trees that led into the opening to a large forest.

Sad opening.... I'm curious how this will go on...
“If at any time you think im gone. Just remember that when im gone, your never really alone, because im always with you. I would never leave you alone. And even when I die, which will happen some day, I will always be with you, looking over you”.
Great quote!
