Coincidental Rendezvous: Chapter 1
~Broken Ties~
By Trenton
Trenton sat kneeling beside his own father as he laid on his death bed. His red fur almost complete black from the lack of bathing and cleaning. His breathes were short and laggered from his lunges being filled with an unknown form of fluid. This strange sickness had been ravaging this small village to the North or over two long months, killing many of the inhabitants. Trenton looked over his father's face as he slept quietly, except for the rasping noises he made as he breathed.
His father's eyes slowly opened, glowing a dull green in the dark room. His father always had such green eyes, almost he had emeralds there instead. He turned his head to face young Trenton, who sat beside him in a chair. His father's muzzle cut and scard from battle he had been in over the years, and in not one of them he fell to his apponent. Trenton focused on his father, watching his every move to make sure he didn't do something unnecessary that could cause him pain. This sickness filled his lungs with fluid, made his joints ache, and made any injury he got ten times worse. Trenton's father opened his mouth, struggling to speak to him, too weak from fighting this lossing battle.
"Tren.....ton...", he rasped, showing his long, pointed wolf teeth as he spoke. "I......Want to.......Thank you....my son..."
"For what dad?", he responded, leaning in closer to his father so he didn't have to struggle to speak to loud.
"Im......Glad......your my.....son......Your mo....ther would......be proud", he said, struggling to sit up in his bed. Trenton jumped up quickly seeing him struggling to stand up, so he pushed him up to let him sit.
"I know Dad. And if she was here, youd have some one to talk to", he said, trying to sound kind. But in actuality he didn't like the idea. His mother was dead, and nothing would bring her back, but what really bothered Trenton was he saw her die before his eyes. So thinking about his mother only brought pain and sadness to him. "lie down dad, you need your rest to help yourself heal".
"Don't......lie to me......I know....im dying...I can feel...it.....", he said, an annoyed tone sinking into his raspy voice as his son tried to lie to him. "I want....you to know.......im dying........and nothing will...change that.....just like how..your mother died", he said, trying to speak in full sentences, but struggling under not being able to breathe properly. "But before I...die........I want you..to have this", he said, trying to remove a small golden chain from around his neck. He struggled to find it as it sunk into his dirty crimson fur.
"Here, let me help you with that", he said, leaning over and moving his father's hands out of the way. He grabbed the necklace and undid its clasp. He took it away from around his fathers neck, and put it in his open paw. His father looked at it and shed a tear.
"I'll see you...soon", he said, closing his hand around the small golden chain. He turned to Trenton, putting his hand out that held the necklace. "I want...you to have.....this......It was your......mothers.......she gave....it to me....when we.....first met...Now that im....dying...I want you to....have it son".
Trenton held out his hand as his father placed the small necklace in it. He loved his mother so much, and missed her everyday, and the only thing he had to remember her by was a couple of photos. He had little to no memories of his mother, yet he missed her so much. He didn't really understand that logic, but he didn't really care either. Trenton couldn't hold back his tears any more, and he gave in crying. He jumped forward and held his dad close to him, not wanting to let go. His father wasn't a very emotional person, and he didn't say many things to express himself, but it seemed like at that moment he gave in. His father hugged him back, like he was trying to make up for all the times he hadn't. His father closed his eyes and shed a single, sorrowful tear.
"Im sorry....", his father said, as he let go of Trenton and leaned back against the head board to his bed.
"Its ok dad", he said, wiping away the tears from his crimson red eyes. He looked at his father leaning there. "Dad, I wish things could be different".
His father laid there still as ever, not making any noise, not even any rasping noises from him breathing. "Dad?", he called, expecting a slight reply. "Dad!", he said again, fear gripping his chest, making his heart beat faster. He knew his father was dead, but he still wanted to believe that he may have just fallen asleep. He looked down to the small chain in his white paw, closing around it tightly. He stood up, his long white tail hanging lowly between his legs. He blew out the single candle that sat on the table beside his father's bed. He walked out of the room, looking once more into the darkness, looking over to where his father sat in his bed, leaning against the wall. "Its ok dad, I forgive you. It wasn't your fault", he said sadly, turning his head to look away from hsi dead father, he shed one more tear before he closed the door again, never entering that room again.
Before Trenton left to pack up his things, he looked down to the small golden necklace that his father had given him. Attached to it was a small golden heart, with various designes rolling over its surface, ingraved into it. Trenton fumbled with the small thing, trying to open it up. After finally getting it open with one of his nails, he saw a small piece of paper with something written on it. Trenton struggled to read the fine writting on it, it was difficult, but he could read it.
"To the man who brought me all the happines in my life, and made me feel special when I was feeling down. I love you no matter what". And just underneath the fine writting was a name written out in fancy writting compared to the rest of it "~ Rose". On the other side of the heart, there was something inscribed on the inside into the metal. "Love forever Kruz and Rose". Trenton wiped his eyes as they prepared to cry again, but he stopped them short. Letting out a sigh, he walked down the hallway to prepare his things to leave this house forever.
