If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey,
Even if it has a monkey kind of shape!
If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey,
If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey, it's an ape!

Haha, well... there is actually some symbolism to your question to the primates I chose for this mural!
Mandrils, white-throated capuchins (Cebus capucinus), and ring-tailed lemurs (all depicted above) are probably in my top 3 faves, but there are so many out there to love! :)
Reasons for the other primates on the mural:
-Gibbon: I currently volunteer (and have been since last summer*) at the Gibbon Conservation Center out in Santa Clarita, CA, where we have 30+ gibbons, so... after spending so much time working with these guys (hand-feeding them, spending time with them, observing them, etc.) gibbons definitely hold a special place in my heart!
-Howler Monkey (particularly Alouatta palliata): These were the guys I studied when I was doing my thesis research down in Costa Rica. Nothing quite like hearing them vocalize at 6am, only to rush out of your bunk while frantically trying to put on your cargo pants, hiking boots, and gaiters... all the while, also trying to grab your journal, backpack, water bottle, machete (to bushwhack through dense jungle foliage, of course!), and everything else one would need in the jungle, in hopes of chasing them through the rainforest to collect samples from them (for the purpose of my thesis, "samples"= POOP!)
-Francois Langur (Trachypithecus francoisi): I had to go to the San Francisco Zoo as part of my Primate Behavior class that I took and observe a particular primate for two hours... not sure why I chose the Francois Langur at the time, but I did! I learned to love them after having to watch a troop of them for 2 hours :)
-And then the Owl Monkey, Tarsier, Emperor Tamarin, Gorilla, and Orangutan were all just space fillers and my attempt to sort of get an even reflection of various types of primates.
And there you have it! But one primate I realize I didn't put there: Spider monkeys. They're awesome critters! (What I wouldn't give to have a prehensile tail like a spider monkey...)
*The mural was actually made before I started volunteering with the GCC, but I had sort of anticipated working with them when I graduated from UCSC :)
