I was going to ask why Wakko looked so depressed. Then, I realised that they're in a battle. Life's not exactly all "Happy Happy Joy Joy" right now. Plucky comparing people dying to Ren and Stimpy is rather accurate.
On a serious note, I really feel for Wakko here. The night before, the Doctor had made up with his siblings, so now Yakko is no longer a pariah for forcing Lord to relive a terrible memory. Everything seemed to be alright again.
Now, at this moment, there's a very high chance that he'll never see them again.

Here's something that I find rather ironic...and I could be wrong. Dr Lord's mission to retrieve the remains of both the CSS Virginia and the USS Monitor and take them back to the present day coincides with the History 3000 subject. The Toons are the ones doing the mission because, supposedly, if the humans did it, and one of them was wounded...or worse, they'd still be in the state of unrelenting pain when they returned to the present, and would most likely die from blood loss unless they get medical attention.
The Toons don't have this problem, because, as demonstrated in part 15, they'll be healed instantly as soon as they return to their own dimension. It's a shame it can't heal emotional scars, too. With that said, this could help them to realise how lucky they are that the only thing in the Tooniverse that can kill them is paint remover. It could also help them to appreciate those who have died in the battles they have witnessed.
While the actions of a certain jealous toon have nearly ruined everything that they have worked for, I've a feeling that the trips to Reality and the near-death experiences are not over yet. They still have to witness the sinking of the Monitor.
