It's the structure underneath the sketch. I always have to set up a foundation for every drawing I make. If you do enough foundation drawing, you start to see it in your head. When you see it in your head, you can start drawing right on top of it. :D

So, if I get this correct, you don't draw a structure and instantly start on the drawing?

Eh, sometimes I manage to get it right the first time, but 80% of the time it's still structure with me. It's gotten from roughing out a structure, erasing it, roughing another, erasing it, roughing a third structure, refining that structure, laying down ink on top, and erasing the structure, to just rough structure, fix it if necessary, final layer.

So I do draw a structure if I wanna get it right. I don't if I just wanna see where it goes and learn from the experience ;)
