This sketch will be coloured in future so that the background becomes clearer, but I can be slow to get round to such things, so I'm posting this while Rio 2016 is on everyone's lips.
This idea for this comes from the lesser-known animated movie Animalympics, released in 1980 and not publicized as it should be due to the USA's boycott of the Moscow Olympics that year. As the title suggests, it features animal characters competing in Olympic sports in and around Pawprint Stadium. Two key rivals in the grueling marathon race were Kit Mambo (a shapely African lioness) and Rene Fromage (a fiercely independent French goat). Leading neck and neck through much of the race, their rivalry vanished to be replaced by attraction, and they ended the race paw in paw, heading off into the sunset, not caring about medals and glory.
I imagined that those events were sufficiently long ago that Kit and Rene might have married and had children, and that after 36 years their son, Christophe Mambo-Fromage, was back at Pawprint Stadium competing for gold in the same race they ran together. He's most like his father in appearance (hence the species given in the appropriate field), but has the mane, pelt and tail of his mother's species.
Animalympics belongs to John Lisberger and Lisberger Studios. Nice work, John, and thanks for inspiring me to create this picture.
