Very cool! I'm still trying to learn how to do colours and shades like this, though I use only layers and gaussian blur in Photoshop

are you using a tablet?

mine are so smooth because ive been pretty well practiced with a tablet for 7 years or so

Well actually I use paper and pencil more than anything. I oftentimes use my tablet to color and add shading details. I'm starting to get accustomed to the Pen tool in Photoshop, it's works wonders for outlining...but damn is it tedious sometimes~
