I'm not really sure myself, honestly, but it appeals to me on some level. It works especially well when I draw myself more cartoonishly (like in this picture); when I draw myself as fully human-proportioned, it looks better to have clothes (not that I never do things the other way around, but I think this is where my preferences lie).
