Should he win, Thorn would be granted with some of the prince's magic. Should he lose, Sanguine would transform him into a beast. Thorn lost the wager by a hair and Sanguine turned the Nord into a goat as punishment.
Shamed and defeated, Thorn accepted his fate and knelt before the Prince. Sanguine had admired the man's confidence and devious lifestyle that had honored his own and so took pity on him. But Sanguine honors his deals, and he could not go back on it. Instead, Sanguine gave him his human form, but as half-man, half-beast.
Thorn pledged his services to the Prince, and Sanguine granted the goat his blessing, branding him with this mark.
